The Law Society has published a release in support of National Wills Week:
The six constituent members of the Law Society of South Africa (the Law Society of the Northern Provinces, the Cape Law Society, the Law Society of the Free State, the KwaZulu-Natal Law Society, the Black Lawyers Association and the National Association of Democratic Lawyers) are presenting National Wills Week from 6 to 10 September 2010. The President of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces, Mr C P Fourie, requests attorneys’ firms to make a special effort this year to promote National Wills Week and attorneys’ services in their areas. All firms of attorneys are, therefore, invited to participate in this special national access to justice and marketing campaign.
The aim of this campaign is twofold:
- to make attorneys’ services better known to the public and improve the image of the profession; and
- to encourage members of the public who would not normally make use of the services of an attorney, or who may hesitate to consult an attorney for fear of the possible high fees, to consult an attorney to draft a basic will.
While I don’t usually handle family law or estates matters, my colleague, Roy Bregman will be available to consult with members of the public to draft a BASIC WILL free of charge during the week of 6 to 10 SEPTEMBER 2010. During this period you will be able to approach him to receive an explanation of the advantages of having an attorney draft a will, as well as the necessity of having a will, especially for new property owners and other persons who have immovable property registered in their names. A basic will is then executed free of charge. No existing wills will be redrafted or amended.
If you’d like to participate, please contact Roy’s office to schedule a meeting to meet with him during the week of 6 to 10 September 2010. Roy’s office number is 011 646 0335.
